A year back, I would never had thought I would have started a site for a Jpop girls group. I am never known as a blogger type of person and I don't write. For many years I always thought that blogging is a waste of time and surprising that is what I am doing now at this moment...lol.
But since following AKB48 for the past one year, my mindset has changed gradually. The AKB48 fanpage for overseas fans was started in May 2010 for a few purposes. One of the purpose was to create a community of international AKB48 fans. For the previous few years, AKB48 management had been pretty reluctant to promote AKB48 out of Japan. There was in fact very little media overage of AKB48 outside Japan and you probably you don't get to hear AKB48 stuff in your country through general media. There are actually quite a few AKB48 sites available around the net, the more prominent one being Nihongogo & Stage48. These are really good sites for people who were already AKB48 fans but its hard for new AKB48 to navigate around in a short time. Remember there are 48 girls in this group and coping and to learn about these girls are not easy. If you are just causal fans outside Japan, you would have easily given up the group after sometime.
Therefore, I wanted to start something different and I found facebook a good proactive tool in creating a international fans community. It is perfect for fans who want to get the latest update easily or share their thoughts on AKB48 and yet want to avoid hustle in searching the net or site for good stuff. I still think in depth discussion can only be done at the forums but for quick share of thoughts or good links and videos, the facebook fanpage has so far being serving these purposes well. You could probably see the fanpage as a transport vehicle that can direct the crowds to the good places.
But Facebook had its constraints and one of the thing is the words constraint on the wall. At times when the update is so long that I found it impossible to put everything on facebook (probably as I had mentioned earlier, facebook fanpage is more of a "transport" that link people to places rather than putting big stuff). So I have created this site/blog to complement with the AKB48 fanpage. I still had not decided how this blog will run like whether it will cover only AKB48 and so on but one thing I am sure is that we will be moving into exciting time with this site. Stay tuned =)
